I’ve worked in museums and cultural organisations in Australia since the mid 1990s. With a visual arts degree, a love of storytelling and coming from a family of collectors, for me, working in museums was a logical career path.
After moving to Switzerland at the end of 2015, I was looking for ways to continue my passion for museums. This is when I stumbled upon the Swiss Museum Pass (SMP).
The Swiss Museum Pass (SMP) is a 12 month pass that offers entry to over 500 museums across Switzerland. After a few museum visits, the pass literally pays for itself.
Every January, the SMP puts out a call for ambassadors. Fifty passes are up for grabs for passionate museum folk, willing to share their museum visits on Instagram.
From 2018 to 2023, I was selected to be a Swiss Museum Pass ambassador. While it’s generally a solitary experience, the SMP organises annual meetups for the ambassadors. My first meetup was in 2018 at Museum Rietberg in Zürich. As a newcomer to Switzerland, it was a great opportunity to meet other museum devotees.

The following year, the ambassador meetup was an adventure-laden experience, involving trams, trains and a vintage post bus. It was hosted by the Museum für Kommunikation in Bern, and it included a visit to their collection depot.

Being a Swiss Museum Pass ambassador was an incredible experience, visiting new museums and making great connections. Below is a small selection of images from my time as a Swiss Museum Pass ambassador. You can see more highlights in my Instagram stories.
