Intrigued by the intricate designs and stunning colours, I began photographing church domes during a trip to Granada, Spain. Back in Switzerland, I continued the series and searched for more churches.
A cupola is a dome-shaped structure at the top of a building. The word comes from the Latin word – cupula – which relates to an overturned cup. Domes are common in religious architecture, but they can also be found in libraries, museums and government buildings.
I printed this series of four images on fabric. They were exhibited at the Spanish restaurant, Au Rendez-Vous, as part of the 2023 Arty Show in Biel/Bienne, Switzerland. The images complemented the restaurant with images from two churches in Spain and two in Switzerland.
